5 Foot Ailments Remedied by Non-Invasive, Drug-free MLS Laser Therapy

We all tend to take our health and wellness for granted until something goes wrong and we lose function of one or more body parts — especially your feet. If you have foot or ankle pain, you stop moving and your whole world comes to a halt. Depending on what’s causing your pain, you may be looking at long-term rehab, medications, physical therapy, and even surgery.

But all that has changed.

At Monroe Foot & Ankle Care, our expert podiatrist Dr. Elliott Perel brings the most advanced technology to his patients in the Monroe Township of New Jersey, so they can overcome their foot and ankle pain without drugs and invasive surgery whenever possible. He uses the revolutionary multiwave locked system (MLS) to safely, effectively, and dramatically reduce pain.

What is MLS?

Multiwave locked system therapy is an FDA-approved technology that uses intense light waves to penetrate your tissues and trigger a chain reaction of events that promote cell renewal, decrease inflammation, and reduce pain. MLS is noninvasive, painless, and has no side effects.

Laser therapy is not new, but MLS is very new. Unlike other versions, such as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) which can be ineffective, and high-power (HP) laser therapy, which can damage surrounding tissues, MLS offers all the benefits without the downside.

MLS combines two types of energy: one that’s constant and another that pulses. The two work in tandem to stimulate healing. Dr. Perel targets the area for treatment and precisely controls the depth of the laser energy to optimize its healing effect.

What can MLS do for my feet and ankles?

MLS is highly effective for any condition that involves inflammation, degenerated joint tissues, arthritic joints, and muscular and tissue trauma. When it comes to your feet and ankles, this is good news. It means that we can treat multiple conditions, including these five common foot ailments.

1. Arthritis

Whether you have rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, or post-traumatic arthritis, the constant pain and stiffness in your feet can make it hard to walk. MLS can reduce swelling and increase your range of motion and mobility. In fact, MLS used in conjunction with other arthritis treatments, like physical therapy, is a winning combo.

2. Foot neuromas

When you spend a lot of time on your feet or have diabetes, you may develop neuromas, which is a thickening of the tissues that surround your nerves. Most people who get them find they’re most common on their heels or the balls of their feet. The thickened tissue puts pressure on the nerve and gives you a burning painful sensation called neuropathy. MLS not only stops the pain, it can help heal the tissue that’s causing the pain.

3. Plantar fasciitis

If you have a stabbing pain in your feet as soon as you get out of bed in the morning, chances are you have plantar fasciitis. It happens when the long, tough band of tissue that stretches from your heel along the bottom of your foot to your toes becomes inflamed. Getting rid of that inflammation isn’t easy, and typically requires a lot of rest. But with MLS, we can have you moving around without pain in no time.

4. Tendonitis

Another part of your foot susceptible to inflammation and pain are your tendons. You may be familiar with the Achilles tendon; that’s the longest tendon in your body that runs up the backside of your ankle. But you have many other tendons in your feet connecting your muscles and bones. Overuse, wear and tear, and injury can all cause a great deal of tendon pain. MLS targets that inflammation and stops the discomfort so you can get moving again.

5. Sprains/strains

Some of the most common foot and ankle injuries are sprains and strains. Whether you stepped off a curb wrong, tripped on a cord, or were injured playing sports, your muscles and ligaments can easily get overstretched or torn. MLS steps in to ease the pain and help the tissues regenerate and heal.

MLS is only one of the many treatments and therapies we offer at Monroe Foot & Ankle Care, and we always take the time to get to know you and your foot issues before making a diagnosis and treatment plan.
